学習目標 |
As a junior seminar, we will study literary works to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge on how to study literature and do independent research. This seminar will limit the period of study from the turn-of-the century era to the present, on literary works in English. In order to have a shared reading, we will focus on the war novel as an expression of the clash of cultures in modern society, which is increasingly composed of different cultures. We will try to define the purpose of the war novel in the twentieth century by close reading, discussion, and wide research into various authors and their works on war and the clash of cultures. We will end with an oral presentation and a research paper. To stimulate discussions, we will build a list of “war novels” written in English. |
